Michael Tobin, the founder and developer of Tobin Eyewash and the Tobin Bottle, came up with the concept for an eyewash with sufficient liquid to wash the eyes continuously for 15 minutes in 1965.
Additionally, the addition of an eye support ring to the bottle facilitated lengthier washing during transport to the hospital. The idea was quickly praised by the media and the Swedish work environment authority.
The Tobin Eyewash began mass production in 1984.
Through participation at expos and word-of-mouth, the concept of prolonged eye cleaning following exposure to hazardous chemicals spread around the globe.
This is the typical method for removing chemicals from the eyes nowadays.
During the 1980s and 1990s, export in Europe increased. In 2007, the company was acquired by the Swedish AL Gruppen AB, which continues to develop eyewash devices in Michael Tobin’s inventive spirit.
